You are never “too old” to have braces! In fact, 25% of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment are adults. Adults in particular can appreciate the benefits of a healthy and beautiful smile. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute significantly to periodontal (gum) disease and bone loss, tooth decay, and abnormal wear of the teeth. Orthodontics can not only address these problems, but it can also provide you with a more attractive smile and the self-confidence that goes along with it. Orthodontic treatment in adults may also be indicated to allow or simplify restorative treatment, such as veneers, crowns, bridges or implants, by your general dentist or other dental specialist. 
Adult orthodontic treatment may involve some additional considerations. Some adults who have experienced breakdown or loss of their teeth or the supporting bone may require periodontal treatment before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. In addition, for individuals who have severe imbalances in the position of the upper and lower jaw bones, orthodontic options can be more limited because the jaws have completed their development.
